About Kables
Kables is a modular synthesizer that runs in your browser, made for one job: helping people understand how synthesizers work by letting them patch one.
It has oscillators, filters, VCAs, envelopes, LFOs, sequencers, samplers and effects, all connected with cables you drag yourself. On top of that it has a guided first build, guides that explain the why, lessons with notes right on the rack, and a page for every module.
About the author
Hi, I'm Jake Whiteley, and I made Kables.
I've always loved synths, and I've spent hundreds of hours tweaking sounds in software synths like Serum and Massive. But I never had the money for a modular setup, so I never got to learn how synthesis really works by patching it myself.
Kables is the tool I wish I'd had: a way for anyone to learn synthesis hands-on, without buying any hardware.
Questions
What is a modular synth?
A synthesizer split into separate modules — oscillators, filters, envelopes, LFOs — that you connect yourself with patch cables. Nothing makes a sound until you patch it, which is exactly why it’s such a good way to learn how synthesis works.
Do I need any experience or hardware?
No. Kables runs in your browser with nothing to install. The 5-minute guided build starts from an empty rack and waits for you to do each step, and every module explains itself with a ? button.
Is Kables free?
Yes. Open the synth, follow the lessons, save patches in your browser and share them as links or files — no account needed.
Will this help me understand Eurorack?
Yes. Kables uses the same ideas and names as hardware modular: VCO, VCF, VCA, ADSR, LFO, CV, gate and 1V/oct pitch. Any output can be patched into any input, just like in a real case.

Your data stays with you
Kables has no accounts. Your rack, saved patches, lesson progress and any samples you record or load are kept in your own browser. Sharing a patch is something you choose to do, as a link or a file.
Tips
- Use headphones, and mind your volume — synths can get loud quickly.
- Kables works best in a recent desktop browser (Chrome, Edge, Firefox or Safari).
