Resonator
A set of tuned resonators — like the body of a bell, a marimba bar or a gong waiting to be hit.
Learn about it in Oscillators: where every sound starts
How it works
Eight resonant filters ring at the frequencies that real objects have. HARM is a string-like harmonic series, BELL the uneven partials of a church bell, BAR a marimba, GONG a crash of inharmonic tones. Nothing sounds until something excites it: a STRIKE trigger, or any audio into IN.
Inputs
| IN | Audio to resonate: drums, noise, a voice. The resonators pick out their own notes from it. |
|---|---|
| STRIKE | A trigger hits it like a mallet. |
| V/OCT | Pitch, 1.0 per octave. |
Outputs
| OUT | The ringing. |
|---|
Knobs and switches
| HARM / BELL / BAR / GONG | Which kind of object. |
|---|---|
| Tune | Base pitch. |
| Decay | Ring time. |
| Bright | How strong the upper partials are, and how long they last. |
Patches to try
- Drum Trio MIX → IN: the drums now play pitched bells.
- Euclid → STRIKE with a Quantizer on V/OCT: a gamelan.
