Effects
Vocoder
The robot-voice effect: makes a synth speak with the shape of your voice.
Learn about it in Sampling & live sound
How it works
Both inputs are split into 16 frequency bands. The vocoder measures how loud your voice (MOD) is in each band and lets the synth (CARRIER) through each band by that much. A bright, buzzy carrier (saw, chord) works best. Breath adds noise to the carrier so “s” and “t” sounds come through.
Inputs
| CARRIER | The sound that does the singing — a saw wave or chord. |
|---|---|
| MOD | The sound that shapes it — usually a microphone. |
Outputs
| OUT | The vocoded sound. |

Knobs and switches
| Release | How quickly bands close. |
|---|---|
| Sharp | Band sharpness. |
| Treble | Treble boost for clarity. |
| Breath | Noise for consonants. |
| Dry | Unprocessed carrier mixed in. |
