Quantizer
Quantizer — snaps any voltage to the nearest note of a musical scale.
Learn about it in Melody & chance: chords, arps and generative patches
How it works
The input is treated as pitch (1.0 per octave), scaled by Range, then rounded to the closest note in the chosen scale and root. Feed it anything — random S&H values, an LFO, the Lorenz attractor — and it comes out as notes that sound “right” together.
Inputs
| IN | Any signal to turn into notes. |
|---|
Outputs
| V/OCT | Quantized pitch. Patch to VCO V/OCT. |
|---|---|
| TRIG | A short pulse every time the note changes — patch to ADSR GATE to play each new note. |
Knobs and switches
| Scale | Which notes are allowed. |
|---|---|
| Root | Key of the scale. |
| Range | How many octaves a ±1.0 input spans. Bigger = wider melodies. |

Words to know
- V/OCT — The pitch standard: each +1 on the input raises the pitch by one octave.
- Quantizer — Snaps any pitch CV to the nearest note of a scale.
